Research Interests:
History of PE, government policy, management and leadership within Physical Education, Gifted and Talented and the pedagogy of teaching games in schools.

Qualifications:
BA (Hons) in Physical Education and History from the University of Birmingham, PGCE in Physical Education gained from the University of London, MA in PE, Sport and Dance from Liverpool John Moores University

Biography:

Gareth taught PE in schools within Sefton, Oxfordshire and Liverpool before his appointment as Head of Department at St Margaret’s High School in Liverpool. This provided opportunities to oversee a busy extra-curricular programme with local, regional and national success in a number of sports. In 1999 Gareth took on an extra role as Internal Coordinator for the school’s Gifted and Talented pupils as part of the Excellence in Cities initiative. Following his appointment at Edge Hill in 2006 Gareth assumed the role of University Football Coach for two years in addition to his normal teaching duties. In 2011 he organised the ‘Edge Hill PE and School Sport Conference’ which has since become an annual event.
